If you have not been to the dentist in a while, we invite you to schedule your dental checkup with Dr. Dr. Peter J. Kim. At our Mckinney dental office, we treat patients of all ages, focusing on improving the health and appearance of our patients’ smiles. We understand that not everyone is excited about dental care.
What If I Haven’t Been To The Dentist For A Checkup In A While?
We also understand that due to busy schedules, a lack of insurance, or general forgetfulness, people do not visit the dentist with any regularity. If that is you, do not worry; you are not alone. According to USA Today, 34 percent of Americans do not visit the dentist on an annual basis. While this is a large group of people, not having a dental checkup can place you at risk for a variety of health issues. We encourage you to take an hour out of your day for the benefit of your oral health and your future quality of life. To get started, call our office or schedule your dental checkup appointment online. We are excited to meet you!
Why You Need A Dental Checkup?
There is a direct link between visiting the dentist and keeping your natural teeth. If you want to ensure that you have a full mouth of healthy teeth, then visit the dentist. Gallup Poll released a study in 2014 finding that the states with the highest percentage of dental visits also had the lowest percentage of adult tooth loss. The correlation is clear! Saving your teeth, after all, is less time consuming and less expensive.
Another reason to schedule a dental checkup is to prevent a toothache or infection. Did you know that, according to the Center for Disease Control, 164 million work hours are lost each and every year due to dental-related health issues? Without preventative dental care, you are at a greater risk for tooth decay, infection, and gum disease.
What Happens At Your Dental Checkup?
When you visit Dr. Kim in our Mckinney, Texas office, you will be welcomed into a comfortable and friendly environment. First, we will take images of your teeth and gums to see if there are any infections or decay that are under the surface. We will also perform a visual inspection of your gums and each one of your teeth. During this time, we are looking for signs of infection, tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer. If we identify any of these issues, we will discuss treatment options with you and may even be able to treat minor cavities that day. Most patients will be able to have a dental cleaning after their new patient exam with Dr. Kim. Some patients may need a more comprehensive cleaning if periodontal disease is identified at their new patient exam. In this case, a second appointment will be needed for the periodontal therapy (deep cleaning). New patient exams typically take about one hour, as do routine cleanings. We ask that our new patients allot two hours for their new patient visit to our office. When you visit our Mckinney, TX dental office, we will provide you the highest quality of care we can, by completing your dental checkup efficiently and gently.
